The 28 year old South-African Trevor Immelman has become the winner of the
2008 Masters at Augusta. With a final round of 75 Immelman came to a total of
280 (8 under par) and therefore became the first South-African since Gary Player
to win a Major. An operation was needed to remove a non-cancerous tumor
lodged beneath his ribs. This was only 4 months ago and after that he could only
do some chips and putting for weeks. Now Immelman took on the famous Green
jacket and took home a cheque for $ 1,350,000 after being on top of the
leaderboard for 4 days. Three strokes behind Immelman ended Tiger Woods.
The Worlds number 1 started the day 6 strokes behind Immelman. His final round
of 72 was not enough and therefore Woods ended on a total of 283, directly
followed by Brandt Snedeker and Stewart Cink on 284.
